Sow's Ear Studio is owned and operated by Rosemary & Lauren Prock. Rosemary & Lauren are mother and daughter and have the most wonderful talent in the world.
Rosemary started Sow's Ear Studio eleven years ago. Rosemary has been an artist all of her life, and has art in her blood. Rosemary decided to go back to her low-tech roots after being a graphic designer for a number of years. It all started with painting a dresser for her neice, and then the dream came alive. In February of 1998, she opened a shop called Sow's Ear Studio. A nice place where she could have a place to paint furniture, accessories for the home, and be able to meet with new clients to discuss a mural or faux finish in their home. Before she new it, she was meeting with more clients about painted furniture & doing more murals and faux finishes in clients houses. Sow's Ear Studio was only open by chance or by appointment, because she realized that her business was in the home & in the heart.
Lauren Prock has been working with polymer clay for seven years. July 25, 2007, Polymer Play Works was established. With a plan to have her own business, and be business partners with her mother; Lauren opened her first online store on ETSY. Lauren started with a few craft shows to sell her artwork, and then started to bring some of her pieces at Sow's Ear Studio. Polymer clay, beads, wire, tiger's tail, creativity, and love was the name of the game for Polymer Play Works. Polymer Play Works was started at her house. Things changed a lot for Lauren & Rosemary June 6, 2008. Lauren & Rosemary decided to have regular shop hours, and be open six days a week.
Lauren and Rosemary merged togther with a plan to not only make their businesses bigger and better, but to bring in local artists in the shop and to help them with their businesses as well. Rosemary & Lauren have a doing a yearly group show for a couple of years now. Now all of the women artists placed their handcrafted items into the shop. By October of 2008, Lauren & Rosemary opened an art gallery upstairs. Our first gallery opening was done by local artist July Branch. Julie Branch does mixed media figurative sculptures and tom-tems (scandanavian house elves). Rosemary & Lauren have a plan for artists to bring their work into the gallery and display their artwork for a month. Lauren & Rosemary have several local artists.
